QIMSI Gold enclosure

Post by Marcel_X »

I'm late to the party, but I got my QIMSI Gold a few weeks ago. My first jump into the new QL era :D!
I found some nice designs online for an enclosure, but what I was missing was the option to be able to access the serial port and I/O without removing the enclosure. So I added slots on each side which can hold standard 3-pin Dupont connectors. For that you have to solder in two right angle pin headers as shown here:

Here are the cables plugged in:

Tried to mimic the looks of the QL. Thanks to the late Rick Dickenson for his wonderful work.

I tried several build plates to get a nice matte textured finish and what worked for me is PLA-CF on a CryoGrip Glacier Pro build plate.
And of course PLA Silk Gold for the lettering! ;)

There is a tiny light pipe in there as well. Can be omitted as the LED is quite bright. But it looks a bit more diffused this way. Printed in natural PLA.

All you need are 4 additional screws to hold everything together. More info and the files for printing can be found on Makerworld:

Enjoy!

Truly lovely! I often marvel at the inventiveness of QL users.

Hi,

I like the side connector access.

I will get some printed out.

Thanks Derek and Dilwyn!

As a side note, I have got a few left. Including the correct screws.
So if anyone doesn't have access to a decent 3D printer, gold filament or the screws, send me a PM.
Happy to send one for free, as long as you pay for shipping.

Amazing job, Marcel! By far the most professional QIMSI case design yet! :D
Despite being a senior QL hardware designer, I didn't hear the term "Standard Dupont cable" yet.
Does it mean more than just "jumper wire"?

Did you consider to make the LED lightpipe part of the i-dot ? ;)

Well that seems to be the official name. I think DuPont is the original inventor. I could be wrong...

Actually PaintShopPro 4 from 1998. Primitive, but has the advantage that I know it's features. ;)
