Yeah, I thought of that, and left it off while I had tea. But same again after that when it had cooled down.
Having tried reseating and tapping the solder joints to check for dry joints etc, without success, I tried a spare PSU and it worked! What's more, the picture on the TV via SCART is now steadier and less flicker too. So unless I disturbed a loose connection, I think it must have been the PSU. If I get time during the week I'll go back to the old PSU and see if the fault happens again.
A slight problem which cropped up was that I managed to break the tails of the keyboard membrane - I was holding the cover open and dropped it, the ends just snapped! Scissors out, cut half a centimetre off, reinsert the tails and it seems to work - I might be buying a new keyboard membrane soon
