Hello

Post by podge_de »

Hi Everybody.

I grew up in the seventies and eighties of the last century. As a schoolboy was fascinated by the 8 bit home computers that could be bought in kit form in certain magazine. I was trying to save up he money for a zx80 when the 81 came along, so i kept saving for an 81, then of course the VIC 20 became available (a machine with colour!) so the goalposts changed again. Shortly afterwards the Speccy came on the market and so I had enough money saved up to purchase a 16K spectrum which I did in London on my way to my summer holidays in Spain (I lived in Ireland). That felt like the longest holiday in my life. I had finally purchased my own computer and had to wait two weeks to be able to use it.

in 1989 I was given the opportunity to buy a QL with a trump card and twin floppy drives. Shortly afterwards I emigrated, and was caught up in the rat race. Watching a few you tube videos in recent months I felt the urge to play around with my trusty QL again. (yes I still have it!. went to the attic, brought it down, dusted it plugged it in and wired up an old commodore 1084S, Wow it worked!.

Unfortunately I had a terrible time trying to get the floppies and microdrive cartridges to work.

That's when I stumbled on this forum and found quite a bit of useful information.

Great Work being done here!

Good morning. Happy Christmas. And welcome to the forum.

Wath out for those old microwave cartridges. The foam pads deteriorate and need replacing before use. If not, the old foam crumbles, gets inside and ruins the cartridge.

Cheers,
Norm.
