From time to time it's been suggested that there should be a list or some form of information resource ("Thing"???) which lists what software works with what type of QL system and what patches or means of getting older or less "compatible" softwares to work on all or as many flavours of QLs as possible.
Assuming that someone out there is prepared to set up, host and moderate such a resource (and it could take the form of a forum, a Wiki, or whatever, or integrated with something else like the existing QL Wiki.
Why don't we start off with a fairly simple list of the various type of QL systems around, just to kick-start the thing. I'm sure all this is already on QL Wiki.
1. Operating Systems
QDOS, Argos (Thor), SMS2, SMSQ, SMSQ/E operating systems
+ sub-varieties such as QDOS Classic on Q40/Q60/Amiga
2. Hardware
QL - 128K BBQL (black box original QL)
QL with expanded memory - total 256K, 384K, 512K, 640K, 896K, 1MB (mostly emulators), 2MB, 4MB, and all the options on various emulators
(this is important as there's plenty of software out there which will only work on one size of memory).
Floppy disk systems - FLP, Sinclair/MicroP and any other standards
"compatibles" - Thor (several varieties), Aurora, Q40, Q60, ExeQTor, QXL, QXT-640, Atari ST-QL (many versions)
Hard disk systems - Qubide, Rebel, Miracle, Falkenberg
QL-SD
RomDisq
Combined interfaces like the new Russian Trump Card/Qubide.
3. Emulators
QDOS4Amiga
QDOS Classic Amiga
QDOS Classic on Q40
QDOS Classic on Q60
QLay DOS
QLay Linux
QLay2
QL2K
QemuLator Mac
QemuLator Windows
uQLx linux
uQLx Mac
Win-uQLx
uQLx for ARM systems
QPC1
QPC2 in its countless versions
QLem for Atari
Atari ST-QL with QDOS or SMS
SMSQ/E for native Atari
SMSQmulator on all the platforms which support Java.
MESS QL emulator
And that's just what I can remember as I type. I think I've put myself off this before it's even started, but hopefully it might inspire someone to take up the challenge.
Software Compatibility
Re: Software Compatibility
As far as I know
SMSQ/E just works with QVME Atari emulator card
SMS2 just works on native Atari with SM124 monochrome monitor

SMSQ/E works very well with any non-hardware-expanded Atari ST with a monochrome monitor.Ralf R. wrote: SMSQ/E just works with QVME Atari emulator card
