t0nyt wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 8:06 am As I'd really like to be able to plug in both the SGC & Qsound at the same time I'm going to look into getting parts to make a "simple" 2 port backplane (which will also therefore protect the QL pins). I've been reading a couple of interesting threads on here that make me think this may be possible without any other electronics
AFAIK is not possible to install the Qsound along with SGC (or with a trump card), they don't have the mechanism to reserve the memory need for the interface.

I only ckeck it to work flawless with the 512Kb Ram, Qbide and qimsi.

It should work, using a special backplane (mandatory) with CST's Disk interfaces, and probably cumana or any other interface that have a 74LS266 IC near the QL conector, but not tested.
Ok thanks. I guess I don’t need a backplane for now then

Many thanks for the info

But the board I've found so far is 16cm long!
I got mine from: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3280814 ... 1802hcx7jJ
Quite cheap, but they don't feel cheap. And they're doing their job on my Trump card clone.
I plan to draw a male-female extension board, so it is easier to measure on a card, while keeping the QL closed. Roughly 80mm in length, just enough to have the extension card stick out completely. I guess you are looking for a similar board?

Hi Marcel

Yes, an expansion board as you describe is what I’m looking for

Have also ordered an off the shelf board that’s a lot longer to see if it can be used as a “simple” 2 port upright backplane

Ok, here's what I got for now. I think this could be useable for you as well?
There is a jumper on the board with a track underneath that can be cut. For current measurement purposes.
I will order a few boards.

Looks good! Anything that will save damage on the QL port is good for me

I'm struggling to find the 41612 connectors that are compatible with the QL and expansion cards

Most of the ones I find are listed as 64 pin but seem to have 96 holes (for the female) and males have the 64 pins spaced for 96 pins so I don't think they'll fit (at least that's how it looks to me!)

I was wondering if anyone could recommend where I can get (UK preferably) 1 off right-angle female and 2 off straight male connectors please?

Many thanks

EDIT: not keen on using aliexpress

@t0nyt are you after both the male and females? I may have some left over, I'll check.

Hi t0nyt,

Just received the boards. Tested with my Trump card and it works fine! If you're still interested, drop me a PM.
I have a few more left, so if anyone else is interested, with or without connectors, let me know!

But you're correct. I ordered the wrong DIN 41612 initially. Those had 96 pins with only 64 of them actually installed.
And these won't fit! You have to search for the type Q version. RS-Online in the UK have them, but quite expensive!
