Odd Hardware Items

Post by bwinkel67 »

Anyone try this with any of the QL SD options:

Fysetc.png

Here's the website (though AliExpress is selling it for about half that):

https://www.fysetc.com/products/fysetc- ... 6-f6-turbo

I'm thinking of grabbing it since there is a good YouTube video with instructions:

I have bought one of these:

FlashAir.png

Which is the one that someone has cracked (as all the other ones are closed systems -- long ago I bought a cheap Micro SD to SD converter with built-in WiFi but that could only use the app it came with and could only read stuff from the card since it was made for cameras).

Still have't had a chance to play with it. The advantage of the Fysetc one is that allows for any micro-SD card, though obviously it's a bit bulkier. Still, I might grab it and stick in inside something like my PowerBook 180 which is a pain to open up, just depends how easy it is to put files on and pull files off.

I renamed this post since I came across another odd hardware item that I'm trying to track down. Saw this picture on a Reddit post.

I've been trying to track it down but so far no luck. The Reddit site doesn't name it. This drive is small enough to fit onto a board to stick into the QL expansion slot to give it a built-in floppy.

I have been using the FlashAir card in my QLSD for years now (I think they are no longer sold). Its radio reach is really limited (just a few meters), but otherwise, it really makes file transfers to QLSD much easier.

That looks very much like the inside of a Mitsumi D353G drive. I have one in my c.1996 Gateway 2100 laptop.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proven excellent for mdv data recovery.

Kind of reminds me of a NEC FD1139T as well, except the NEC doesn't have the stepper motor on the back. (Used linear voice coil, no really.)

Oh great, the FlashAir is the one I got on eBay in the US form what seems to be a Japanese seller. It was only $27, including shipping. What also was cool was that it came beautifully wrapped with a hand written card and a bag of nice tea. Must be a cultural thing but that was pretty neat.

I still haven't tried to make it work but have instructions. If I get stuck, do you recall what all needed to be done (i.e. changing the config file on the media, etc).

I'm also planning on buying the Fysetc one since that allows for any MicroSD/TF card to be added. I bought a cheap SD to MicroSD/TF one from AliExpress but could never get beyond the phone app browsing.

Oh cool, I will try and see if I can track it down. I know we have all these SD/USB options today, but it would be neat to see an add-on card with the drive built on top of it so it all goes into the expansion slot and the QL has an Amiga 500/600/1200 like drive internally.

Yes, of course. The FlashAir card can work in AP mode (creates an access point) or network client mode (where it obtains an IP address via DHCP) - You do this all via a config file.

I also found the Canon MD3661 which similarly seems to be a 4"x4" drive.

Does anyone know what sort of interface these laptop floppies use? Is the only difference just a different ribbon cable but otherwise follows the floppy standard? Just want to know if, with the right connector my Kempston Disk Interface could run it. I think someone was working on a clone disk interface. Would be fun to see if you could mount that drive on a board with the interface hardware and slide it into the expansion slot.
