QLay2Web: browser version of QL-emulator QLAY2

Post by j_p »

I have published an experimental online browser version of the QL-emulator QLAY2
named "QLay2Web" at "https://www.poesl.org/emulatoren/ql/QLay2WebSf.php".
Anyone can use this emulator for free non-commercially
and should be aware of the limitations due to QLAY2-core
and port to WASM. Necessary is a browser of 2024 or later (tested with
FireFox, Edge, Chrome).
A short description and sample configurations of the emulator can be found
at "https://www.poesl.org/emulatoren/ql/QLa ... lisch.html".
Due to private development and time limitations I have no resources for
further development or support at the moment. So it may be used at it is...

If its actually based on qlay2 the GPL license does not allow you to add this extra term to the license!

It is very cool, the sqlay3 and sqlux codebases both support WASM, sqlux is even hosted by the forum above!

Sorry, but it was not my intention to cause a discussion about licences.
I have stopped publication in order not to inconvenience somebody.
Sorry again for any inconveniencies.

I dont think anyone is inconvenienced, Im just a FOSS developer by trade so pick up on license mistakes easily :-D

Its a pity you decided to unpublish as it was pretty cool!

It is quite disheartening to see a fascinating hobbyist project being compromised for trivial reasons. These systems have been around for 40 years, and the legal concerns should no longer be relevant. I am beginning to suspect that the challenges faced by the QL were more due to its community than to its technology. Sorry for the out coming... :)-

I wonder if this whole thread was a bit of a misunderstanding?

It looks to me that the base QLAY2 code was open source GPL2. GPL2 code can be used commercially. The web version built on the GLP2 code, but the author tried to restrict it by adding the clause that it could not be used commercially. As was pointed out, restricting access in this way is against GPL2.

So perhaps the comment was actually to try expand the reach of project, not restrict it? However, I do wonder if it was interpreted that way by the author, leading to the code being taken down completely instead
