Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
The subject says it!
The Amiga (starting from 6'000 DM at the beginning [A1000, 1985]) was always my dream computer(!). I never could afford it (didn't want a play console as the A500 but an A2000+).
But now I can afford it, and I know there's a Sinclair QL Emulator available for the Amiga (the first was from Kowalski [or so] from Berlin; I have had known people, who knew him personally). So I want the fastest Amiga (2000, 3000 [4000 should be more bad than 3000 I have heard]) available (I thnk there were add on cards with 68060).
What's a realistic price (at least a processor card with 68040 must be included)? (I'm afraid there's no chance to buy a Q40 or QXL Card).
And what's the best QL emulator for the Amiga?

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
If you want to tinker with it, maybe an A600 would be better since it's small and portable. I will say, the emulation isn't necessarily going to be what you expect. The video output is a bit odd, not taking up the entire screen and taking over the Amiga since it's less an emulator and more a ROM replacement. You can give it a try first using an older version of WinUAE (I couldn't get a newer version to work). I have played with it in both worlds and recorded some video of it.
WinUAE running the QL Amiga emulator where it did a better job with screen display:

Actual Amiga 600 running QL and here you can see the screen looks squished and has lots of black border:

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
I have an A1200 with TF1260 68060 Expansion card. It is currently testing 68060 CPUs for use in a Q60.
Also have A500 with PiStorm, quite fast, A600 8Mb ram medium speed.
I have FS-UAE compi,ed from source running on Linux Core i5 PC, very fast.
But they do not get much use, maybe sell them, later this year.

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
Ahm... you were looking for a 68040 or 68060 Amiga computer because you can't get hands on a QXL/Q40/Q60.
How does a PC emulating an Amiga to emulate a QL match that?
Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
Well if Derek (or you) will produce a new batch of Q60, there's of course no need to buy an Amiga :-)

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
The point with the Amiga QDOS Classic is that it doesn't support High Resolution High Color Graphics - What you get is a very fast (provided the Amiga is...) QL with four or eight-color mode - Which I see as a major downside today.ql_freak wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:23 am Well if Derek (or you) will produce a new batch of Q60, there's of course no need to buy an Amiga![]()

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
Why does hot_rext and qpac2 not run on a 68030/40 ?
hot_xx gives not implemented
tested under FS-UAE 4.0.x

Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
I had no problems on the Q40/Q60 with those. Older versions though.
Re: Best AND fastest(!) Amiga to emulate a QL?
We'll see what is possible. But my remark regarding WinUAE was more about emulation via an Amiga software emulator. You can emulate a high end QL directly and - except the fun of trying it out - I can not see the point in using WinUAE as an additional emulation layer.ql_freak wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:23 am Well if Derek (or you) will produce a new batch of Q60, there's of course no need to buy an Amiga![]()
