QL Mice

Post by Dave »

QL mice are now all getting very long in the tooth. I thought it might be possibly to affordably adapt brand new mechanical mice to work with older computers. However, I know nothing about this area, or the different systems used by Amigas, Ataris, the QL, etc.

Is someone already addressing this need? If not, what do I need to do to fill the gap?

Dave,

There's a guy in Germany who has built a QL to PS/2 Mouse adapter.
You might want to get in contact with him. I think he's also working on a Quimi rebuild.

There's a project on my website for building a PS2 to QL mouse adaptor, which works via the ROM port http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/hardware/index.html (scroll down to Mouse Project) or direct http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/hardware/gc_qlmouse.zip. This project makes the mouse emulate cursor keys. There's a photo of the finished project on the page.

Sermouse, as ever, allows you to use a serial mouse with the QL via a short adaptor lead. This software makes the mouse work as a pointer environment mouse. Not sure where you get the software from these days, though.

I think Simon Goodwin also did a serial mouse driver as part of his DIY Toolkit series and IIRC that made the serial mouse work like a cursor keys emulation mouse. Have a look at DIY Toolkit Volume I (letter I for India) on http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/tk/index.html

So it looks like the mouse area has been well addressed already :)

Great! That's another thing to strike off the to-do list! *woohoo*
