Does anyone have.....

Post by prime »

Hi all,

Does anyone have or know where I can get......

A QL power connector the one on my original machine has broken I have it attached by a piece of cable, but needless to say this has broken also, would be good to get it back on the main board.

A QL case & keyboard I just need the plastic bits including the keys but not the membrain.

An 'H' keycap & an F5 key (the white bit that is under the keycap).

Cheers.

Phill.

Might be worth trying RWAP for the spares :) Has the power socket come off the board?

Yeah i was hoping he might see this on here :)

Yep power socket has broken where the leads bend, quite why Sinclair designed it with nothing above it to brace it and stop int moving every time you inserted it is beyond me.

Cheers.

I thought the top part of the case stops it from bending backwards but I could be wrong :)

*ding dong* Mr Rwap to the spares counter *ding dong*

Yes, I can help out here....

I have a spare QL case or two - £10 for the plastics - includes all keys and the metal plate (can remove the metal plate if you like to reduce the weight slightly for postage). Add £2 if you want a set of case screws with it.

I have lots of spare key tops and key pillars - 10p a pillar and 50p a key top (mainly due to the time it takes to find the right key top out of a pile!)

Postage is extra - and I won't take PayPal for 1 pillar and a key top if anyone wants just that (the paypal fee would be 30p!) Although I do accept payment in UK postage stamps.

As for power connectors - that's something I've never thought of salvaging from the QL motherboards I have disposed of.... Sorry.... The case top has a plastic lug which sits behind the power connector to stop it from pressing inwards....

Wonder what the part number is on the QL service manual - as people also want the connector which goes on the PSU lead.... Surely there must be some out there somewhere...

That sounds like a good deal, you don't happen to have the bottom half of a German Samsung made machine do you? The machine in question is a German one, so I'd preferably want the bottom part to match as the holes for the serial / joystick are different....I'd still want an English keyboard, part of the point of the exercise is to get a British keyboard on this machine :)

Thinking about it if I replace the keyboard on the first machine, I can pinch the required other keys from the replaced keyboard to replace the ones on my second machine.

Would Paypal be OK if I where having a whole case ?

I managed to repair it by soldering it to a 3 way 0.1" right angle pin header, I had to cut the header down a little and the power connector now protrudes about 5mm from the back of the case but now seems actually firmer as the two lugs either side of the power connector fit flush against the back of the case. I'll see how long this repair lasts :)

Cheers.

Hmm- I think (from memory) that the case bottom plastics are not actually any different - the sockets sit on a plate inside the plastic - if someone has a picture of the back of a Samsung case (for the D sockets), can they upload it?

Yes PayPal is fine :) - although postage is extra!

Hmm - Dave has confirmed that the case bottoms are different - different feet for starters (Samsung ones have little slots in the case bottom the square plastic feet clip into) - and the back is a clear space across all 4 ports.

Unfortunately, I don't have one of those case bottoms...

I have a small number of the QL power supply connectors of the 3-pin variety. They're not available anywhere. There is/was a listing on SellMyRetro for them.

I've looked and can't find them - are they still listed?

What is the part number?
