I don't think the European versions were fully shielded - only the US versions, although I stand to be corrected...

The Samsung QLs were sold in both the EU and the US. The US Samsung QLs were modified to have different interrupt speeds depending on if you pressed F1 or F2. If you simply remove the extra board and replace the ROMs with EU/UK ROMs, I believe the two are functionally identical.
They have a steel instead of aluminum keyboard back plate, and the inside of both ABS moldings is aluminized. The funky serial and keyboard ports are replaced with 9-pin D-Sub sockets in a solid steel rail. The microdrive units are a little more evolved.
