Hello from Austria!

Hi to all!

After a long break (I was very busy with other things in my life and sold almost all my QL/retro-stuff a while ago) I am back with a Sinclair QL I bought here in Vienna. It seams that I am obsessed by the old black box ;-)

Although I was more involved in the Amiga-scene over the years (I am an editor for the Amiga Future magazine and beta tester for the upcoming AmigaOne X5000) I always had an eye on the good old QL, which was my first computer with a 6800X-CPU back in the eighties.

I had also the luck to get my hands on a Q40 (thanks to Derek and RWAP) in the past (I sold it in the meantime) and have nice memories of a Sinclair QL meeting here in Austria (4 years ago), where I met Tony Tebby, Jochen Merz, Wolfgang Lenerz, Marcel Kilgus and Urs König.

Here is a little video I made about the meeting:

And here is an article I wrote for "Amiga Future" about the Sinlair QL:

and English:

So, like Urs would say: QL forever! ;)

Greetings from Vienna,
Anton

Hi Anton,

Nice to hear from you again, I always liked the Amiga hardware, but the Operating System was not very good. The QL has a better operating System, in my opinion.

Does your Q40 still work OK.

He did say in the magazine article that he had sold the Q40.

But then, he also said QDOS was written by "Tony Tebben" and that mode 4 was 512x512 and mode 8 was 256x256, so who knows ;) :P

Hi Dave,

I could not find in article any mention of the sale of the Q40... but the reason for asking was that I had to repair the Q40 board, due some sloppy construction (by Qbranch probably) there was some internal tracks in the inner power layer that had become broken. This is usually overheating on construction.

There was some other problems, I remember replacing the ISA connector, as they had used low quality components.

But it all work fine, as per the video :P .

Regards,

Derek

Hi Dave,

in this case it was not my fault, because in the original article (i wrote the article in German) it´s "Tony Tebby" and "512x256". So the guy, who translated the article makes this creative changes ;)

Hi Derek,

thanks to your skills the Q40 worked very well till I sold it to the guy, who organized the QL meeting 2010 in Austria. ;)
