Is there a difference between the 2 micro drives or we can freely exchange them with each other?
So can we use mdv2 in place of an mdv1 and function normally?

Yes, they are identical and you can freely exchange them.

The only real difference is that white plastic washer in the top right hand corner - this is needed on MDV2 to stop the screw pushing into the QL case.
