The Vulcan bomber will be making some of its last flights this weekend *sniff* Check these maps to see if you are lucky enough to have it fly over your house!
Northern Route 10th Oct Saturday

Southern Route 11th Oct Sunday

Awesome sight and the noise is amazing! It flew over my house unexpectadly when I was on the drive washing the car. I nearly bolted and ran for cover! You will hear it long before you see it!

My best man's dad was a Vulcan engineer at Scampton, I think. He once had to change the gyro in one which had been sitting shut down on the tarmac for 24 hours.
After removing the faulty one, he climbed down the access ladder and turned around to take it to engineering. The thing was still spinning and threw him flat on his back.
Sadly, he suffered a pretty major stroke some years go and has since died. He was a brilliant engineer.
Cheers,
Norm.

It's sad that it cannot be kept flying when there are much, much older aircraft still flying
But the southern fly past goes over Flat Holm, which means I may be able to see it on Sunday

Was originally supposed to fly over North Wales but that part got scrubbed - probably sour grapes coz we beat the English at Rugby, but in truth it was the high cost of operating the plane coupled with the long flight time...see here

Suspect these planes are so loud we might hear (or feel) it at some point over the weekend

This video is amazing with the howling noise, it's like an animal. The bit at 1.45 is like a whale!
