New Q60 Boards
Re: New Q60 Boards
I am hoping this would only be a short pause - I've always found Derek to be a good fellow QL'er and have benefitted from some of his expertise and parts.
I hope you just take a short "QL Holiday" Derek, you have a lot to offer.

So sorry to hear of this. Becoming all too common in life in general.

Re: New Q60 Boards
All my contact with Derek has been positive, and he’s always helped to get my QL stuff working. I hope this is just a short pause, and Derek is back soon with refreshed energy!!

Re: New Q60 Boards
Hi,
Do not worry, I have thought about this alot, I am not going let someone with negative comments deter me or tell what or what I a. Roy Wood, backed by QL Today attempts this, with the Q60 production, just because they failed. That still hurts, as does this situation, but no matter, another "Trumpism", by someone that is too old and maybe got brain degeneration.
Over the many years in a profession role, I have had many people take great pleasure in what my faults are in job appraisals. But I disregarded that as they did not understand anything, which is probably what I should done in this situation. If I was so bad at things, I would have have a BCS (hons) Mechanical Engineering, MBA Management, being a Chartered Engineer and served a 5 year craft apprenticeship, with 10 years hands on experience. They were all fools and this case, also fits into the same category.
So not worries, as my rough uncouth brother-law says: "Fuck them all".... sorry for the expletives, sometime the the vulgar expression is the only way to express things.
So I continue, I am intrigued by a 120Mhz Q60... which I would be happy with 80Mhz.

Re: New Q60 Boards
I am intrigued by the recent interest in 68060 based computers. I spent a moment seeing if 68060s are difficult to obtain and found them easy to buy on Ebay. The price asked for them varies between $29 (gary576 ebay.com) for an MC68LC060RC66 to an amazing £547 + postage, etc. from a Polish seller on ebay.co.uk
"bob's electronic store:- ebay.co.uk" is selling an MC68LC060RC75 for £58.79 which does not seem expensive.
"eric woo's rare chips:- ebay.com" seems to be a reliable seller of 68060s.
Might not the QL60 early prototype supersede the Q60 if it became available as a finished product. As 68060 sockets are apparently unavailable I wonder how the processor on the QL60 was connected to the PCB. Hand soldered perhaps?
I have always valued high display resolution over high colour and speed. What might be the maximum display resolution in B&W on a QL60?
When I write windowing programs in SMS2 BASIC, where I can edit a program whilst looking at the result of my faulty logic, I find the more I can see the better. See what I mean below from my 1920x1200 laptop. In reality SMS at 1920x1200 on a laptop screen is a bit small but on a monitor it's perfect.

Re: New Q60 Boards
Hi
I thought I had a supplier in the USA to supply 68LC06RC75 CPUs but it turns out he is a little unreliable and can not supply to me the required CPUs. So being in the USA is probably have a Trump tariff added on.
I will have seem the supply from the Far East is any better.

Hi everyone.
I believe that moving criticisms to Derek, or to Peter, Norman, Per, Qbits, and I apologize for all the others who, at the moment, I forget, being they the pillars of our QL world, is simply by ungrateful and idiots.
Especially when it comes to unfounded criticism.
So Derek, don't take it personally, everyone in the Ql community respects you.
Sorry for my bad English, I hope I have expressed my thoughts clearly.
Marco

Re: New Q60 Boards
I do not think Freescale/Motorola would make a mess of the IDs, there has been some grinding of the surface, there could a chance it is not what it appears to be.
