Well, I have always set both "Priorities" to "low" plus the energy save option. More wasn't possible.

...like SMSQmulator, it causes the CPU fan to run all the time.
Since my original post, SMSQmulator has been much improved and now doesn't tax the CPU as much when idle. The only time the fan starts up now is as normal (heavy load or hot environment).
Just the dosbox prompt itself causes the fan to run continuously, so QPC1 running under dosbox can't avoid it.
