Hi Norm,

Where is the problem with JavaScript ? It is far easier than C++ or Pascal to learn, and transcode S*Basic programs...

I use Notepad++ for it, and it runs pretty fast too... especially compared to S*Basic.

Maybe I will transcode a simple QL screensaver and distribute it to QL Forum smartphone or tablet owners as a demo ?

Of course the code will be readable on PCs, to everyone, as an attatchment.

Must put my JavaScript hat on again !

Regards,
Steve.

The problem is inside my head, not in JavaScript. :(

Cheers,
Norm.

It seems that 2.3.1 is the latest JBED version. It will not run on Android devices above version 4.1. My tablet is running Android 10.

Cheers,
Norm.

Hi Norman,

You wrote :

Seriously, I just don't seem to be able to connect with JavaScript. I have a couple of books on the matter - somewhere, unless they are in the pile to go to the charity shop!>

So I dug out an old S*Basic Kaleidoscope program I wrote and transcoded it into JavaScript to allow comparisons of the listings in text editors.

Unzip them, then just LRUN the basic, or click on the kal3.html file so that the browser can execute it ( on your PC, tablet or smartphone).

I have yet to learn how to get a paused animation in JavaScript.... which can work on small devices !

Steve.

:) Thanks Steve. I'll definitely be looking at those later. When I next get some playtime!

Hi again,

I forgot to mention : When you have unzipped the kal3.html file, send it to yourself as an email attatchment. Then click on the latter when it arrives...

That way you can execute it on your tablet or smartphone !

Regards,
Steve.

Hi All,

Following on from my 08h54 message :

I had sent myself the kal3.html file at 07h46, but have still not received it ! However, it is in the outbox to click on...

One wonders why this email has been gobbled up over the web ? I sent the same email with NO attatchment and it arrived immediately !

So you can test it in your outbox if you can't send it. 'WWW' is the 'World Wide Wierd' network.

Never had this problem before. Any Ideas anybody ?

Steve.

Did you check your spam filter Steve? An html file with a JavaScripy payload is almost certainly in quarantine.

I downloaded the zip fil onto my tablet and opened it in Chrome. It asked me for a number of iterations, so I gave it the maximum. Then it displayed one screen. It looks like a kaleidoscope -- should I have seen the individual frames, or just the final result?

Hi Norman,

Yes, you got the correct output from the html file. The basic program has paused animated graphics. I have not yet found out how to do this in JavaScript.

There is nothing in my quarantine box, and no sign of the email yet either.

Regards,

Steve.
